Private transfer from Fès to Marrakech

Both waysSame price
Distance529 km
DriveAbout 6 h
Per car, from€300

A private transfer from Fès to Marrakech covers about 529 km in about 6 hours on the motorway, in your own car with an English- or French-speaking driver. You pay one fixed price for the car, from €300, agreed before you travel. The drive from Marrakech back to Fès costs the same.

It is a long day whichever way you go. The coach takes 8 h 40 to 11 hours, the train needs most of the day too, and a flight still means two airports. In a car you leave when you want, stop when you want, and arrive at the edge of your medina. Two of our drivers live in Fès and two in Marrakech, so your driver knows both ends of the trip.

The route

  1. FèsHotel, riad or airport
  2. RabatOn the motorway, 203 km from Fès
  3. Casablanca300 km · about 3 h 30
  4. Marrakech529 km · about 6 h

The fast way is the motorway: west to Rabat, down the coast to Casablanca, then south to Marrakech. The other way crosses the Middle Atlas by Ifrane and Beni Mellal: about 2 hours longer, and the better drive if you want to stop.

What the price includes

  • An English- or French-speaking driver for the whole drive
  • An air-conditioned car water on board
  • Meet and greet your name on a sign in arrivals
  • Your flight, followed no charge if you land late
  • Child seats free, on request
  • Motorway tolls included
  • One fixed price agreed before you travel, the same at night
  • Cancellation free up to 6 hours before

Ford Tourneo Custom, minivan7 people, 12 large bags€330€660
Mercedes-Benz Vito, van7 people, 7 large bags€350€700

The price is for the car, not for each person. Three friends in the Superb share €300, about €100 each, and a family of six with suitcases fits in the Tourneo. The price includes the driver, the fuel and the motorway tolls, and it is the same by day or by night. For eight to 17 people we arrange a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, and a coach for larger groups, price on request.

The coach times and fares are CTM's, read on its booking site in November 2026 for two Thursdays, 12 November and 17 December. They can change.

The CTM coach. Four direct coaches left Fès on 12 November, and the first three ran again on 17 December:

Leaves FèsReaches MarrakechTimeFare
06:3017:2510 h 55225 MAD
07:0015:408 h 40240 MAD
10:0020:0010 h225 MAD
19:3004:158 h 45205 MAD

Other CTM departures that day changed coach in Casablanca or Rabat, for 255 to 330 MAD. You buy tickets on CTM's site or at the station, and the CTM station in Fès is in the Ville Nouvelle. A travel guide to this route says bags in the hold cost 10 to 15 dirhams each and that the coaches have no toilet on board, so use the station's before you leave.

The train. ONCF trains link Fès and Marrakech on the line through Casablanca. Travel guides give about 6 h 30 for the fastest trains, and they disagree on whether you change in Casablanca. We could not read ONCF's own timetable for our dates, so check times and fares on oncf-voyages.ma before you plan around them. The station in Fès is in the Ville Nouvelle, and Marrakech station is in Guéliz, so you still need a taxi at each end.

A flight. Ryanair flies from Fès‑Saïss to Marrakech on some days of the week, and the flight is short. Add the drive to Fès‑Saïss, being at the airport in time, bag fees on low-cost tickets, and the drive from Marrakech airport into the city.

A rental car. You can drive it yourself: the motorway is easy, and the Middle Atlas road is slower with more bends. A one-way rental usually costs extra, so ask the company before you book. Cars cannot enter the medinas of Fès or Marrakech, so you will need somewhere to park at both ends.

For one or two people on a budget, take the coach or the train. The car is worth its price when:

  • you are three or more, or travel with luggage or children: three coach tickets come to 720 MAD (about €65) before bag fees and taxis, but the car takes you from door to door;
  • you want to see Ifrane, the cedar forest, Ouzoud or Casablanca on the way, which the coach and the train do not allow;
  • you want to leave at your own time and arrive in daylight, not at 04:15;
  • you do not want to spend most of the day changing between stations, taxis and airports.

Two roads: the motorway or the Middle Atlas

The motorway, about 6 hours. This is the road we take unless you ask for another. It goes west from Fès to Rabat, down the coast to Casablanca and south to Marrakech: about 529 km, all on the motorway. It is the quickest and the easiest on the stomach. Rabat comes after about 203 km and Casablanca after about 300 km, so a lunch stop falls naturally around the middle of the day.

The Middle Atlas road, about 8 hours of driving. The other way goes south from Fès through the mountains, by Ifrane, Azrou and Beni Mellal: about 485 km, shorter in distance but about 2 hours longer, because it is a normal road with towns and bends. It is the more beautiful drive, and the one to choose if you want to stop on the way. With stops it fills a whole day, so leave early. Ask for this road when you book and we confirm the plan and the price on WhatsApp.

Stops on the way

Short stops for a coffee, lunch or a photo are part of the drive: ask for them when you book. A visit makes the day longer, so plan it with us. A visit is added to the price, depending on the visit, and entry tickets are yours to pay.

On the motorway:

  • Rabat is the capital, about 2 h 20 from Fès. The motorway passes the city, so a coffee stop costs nothing. A visit to the Kasbah of the Oudayas or the Hassan Tower needs a few hours.
  • Casablanca is a little past halfway, about 3 h 30 from Fès. The Hassan II Mosque, on the ocean, adds about 25 minutes of driving, plus your visit. See our day in Casablanca for what a visit involves.

On the Middle Atlas road:

  • Ifrane is a mountain town about 64 km and about 1 h 05 from Fès, with chalet-style houses and a ski slope nearby in winter, which is why it is called the Switzerland of Morocco.
  • The cedar forest near Azrou is about 20 km and half an hour further. It is home to Barbary macaques, which you can often see near the road.
  • Beni Mellal is the town where most people stop for lunch on this road.
  • The Ouzoud waterfalls are one of Morocco's highest falls, at about 110 m. Going that way adds about 58 km and about 1 h 40 of driving to the Middle Atlas road, plus your visit, so it makes a very long day.

Fès to Marrakech through the Sahara

If you have more time, the desert lies between the two cities. A trip through Merzouga takes at least three days, with a night in the dunes. Our three days from Marrakech to Fès links the two cities this way, and our Sahara desert tours page has the other routes. Tell us you are starting in Fès, and we reply with the plan and the price.

Leaving from the medina of Fès

Cars cannot enter the old medina of Fès. Your driver meets you at the nearest gate or car park and helps with the bags. Give us the name of your riad when you book, and we tell you where to meet. Many riads send someone to walk with you and your luggage.

If you are staying in the Ville Nouvelle, your driver comes to the door of your hotel.

A narrow street in the medina of Fès
A lane in the medina of Fès

From Fès‑Saïss airport to Marrakech

Fès‑Saïss airport is south of the city, and the drive from there is about the same: about 527 km and about 6 hours. If you land and want to go straight to Marrakech, add your flight number when you book. We follow the flight, and your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. We confirm the price from the airport on WhatsApp.

Fès to Marrakech in a day?

The transfer itself is a day: leave Fès after breakfast and you reach Marrakech in the afternoon. A day trip there and back is a different thing, with about 12 hours in the car, and we do not suggest it. Both cities deserve at least two nights.

Arriving in Marrakech

Cars cannot enter most of the medina of Marrakech. Your driver takes you as near your riad as a car can go and helps with the bags to the nearest point. Many riads send someone to meet you there. Give us the name of your riad and we tell you where to meet. Hotels in Guéliz, the Hivernage and the Palmeraie have their own entrance, and your driver comes to the door.

Marrakech to Fès

The drive back costs the same and takes the same time. Choose "Marrakech → Fès" at the top of the form, and give the address in Fès where you are going. The direct CTM coaches the other way left Marrakech at 01:45, 07:30, 13:15 and 16:00 on both dates we checked, in 7 h 05 to 10 h 30, for 225 to 240 MAD.

Flying out of Marrakech? From Fès, count about 6 hours to the departures hall at Marrakech-Menara, then add the time your airline asks you to be at the airport. We agree the pickup time with you when we confirm the booking.

Going on from Marrakech

We have fixed prices for these drives from Marrakech too:

Going north from Fès instead? See our Fès to Chefchaouen transfer. Want the same driver for the whole trip? Hire a private driver by the day, or see all our private transfers.

The long drive: what to expect

Six hours is a long time in a car, so we plan the stops with you: a coffee in the morning, lunch around the middle of the day, and a break whenever you ask. The car is air-conditioned, with water on board. Child seats are free, on request: tell us each child's age. On the Middle Atlas road there are bends in the mountains: if you get car sick, sit in the front and tell your driver before you leave.

How to book this transfer

  2. We confirm the car and the fixed price, usually within the hour. Nothing is booked until we confirm.
  3. On the day, your driver is there at the time you agreed.
