Private transfer from Tangier to Chefchaouen

A private transfer from Tangier to Chefchaouen covers about 110 km in about 2 hours, in your own car with an English- or French-speaking driver. You pay one fixed price for the car, from €90, agreed before you travel. The drive from Chefchaouen back to Tangier costs the same.

There is no train to Chefchaouen. The choice is a coach, which costs less for one or two people, or a car, which picks you up at your door and leaves when you want. Two of our drivers live in Tangier, so your trip starts with a driver who knows the city.

Prices per car

The price is for the car, not for each person. Three friends in the Superb share €90, so about €30 each, and a family of six with suitcases fits in the Tourneo. The price includes the driver, the fuel and any tolls, and it is the same by day or by night. For eight to 17 people we arrange a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, and a coach for larger groups, price on request.

Car, coach, grand taxi or a rental?

Coach times and fares are the operators' own, read on the CTM and ONCF booking sites in November 2026 for travel on Thursday 12 November. CTM's were the same on 17 December. They can change.

The CTM coach. Five direct coaches a day, all at the same fare:

The Supratours coach. ONCF sells two a day from Tangier Ville station, at 10:37 and 20:37, timed to meet the high-speed train from Casablanca. Both take 2 h 30. If you come off Al Boraq, this is the easy connection. See our Casablanca to Chefchaouen transfer for the whole chain.

The train. It stops at Tangier. There is no railway to Chefchaouen.

A flight. Chefchaouen has no airport. A travel guide puts the nearest one at Tétouan, about 1 h 30 away, and it is not useful from Tangier.

A grand taxi. A travel guide gives from about 70 MAD a seat for a shared grand taxi from the station next to the CTM coach station in Tangier, and it says these taxis leave when they are full. They do not pick up at hotels. We did not check the fares ourselves.

A rental car. The road is short enough to drive yourself, with bends on the last part. Cars cannot enter the medina of Chefchaouen, so you will also need somewhere to park. A one-way rental usually costs extra, so ask the company before you book.

For one or two people on a budget, take the coach. The car is worth its price when:

• you are three or more: the price is shared, and three coach tickets already come to 255 MAD (about €23) before bag fees and taxis;
• you land at the airport or arrive off a ferry, because no coach starts there;
• you have luggage or children, since the car comes to your door;
• you want to stop in Tétouan, which the direct coach does not allow.

From Tangier airport or the ferry to Chefchaouen

Tangier airport (Ibn Battouta) is about 126 km from Chefchaouen, about 2 h 20. Add your flight number when you book. We follow the flight, and your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign.

Tanger Med port, where many ferries from Spain arrive, is about 121 km from Chefchaouen, about 2 h 10. It is well outside Tangier, so a car saves you a trip into the city first.

The ferry port in Tangier city is the same drive as from a hotel in Tangier.

Stops on the way: Tétouan and Akchour

Short stops for a coffee or a photo are part of the drive: ask for them when you book. A visit makes the day longer, so plan it with us. A visit is added to the price, depending on the visit, and entry tickets are yours to pay.

Tétouan is the stop that makes sense. Its medina has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Going that way adds only about 12 km and about 20 minutes of driving to the trip, plus your visit, so you can see it and still reach Chefchaouen in the afternoon.

The Akchour waterfalls are in the mountains near Chefchaouen and need a walk to reach them. We suggest keeping them for a day when you are staying in Chefchaouen.

Chefchaouen in a day from Tangier?

Yes, this is one of the few places where it works. The drive is about 2 hours each way, which leaves you most of a day in the town. Tell us the date and the time you want to be back, and we confirm the plan and the price on WhatsApp.

If you can, stay a night: the town is quieter once the day visitors leave.

Arriving in Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen was founded in 1471. Its medina, known for its blue-washed walls, is a pedestrian zone of stairs and lanes, and cars stop at the edge. Your driver takes you as near your riad as a car can go and helps with the bags to the nearest point. Many riads send someone to meet you there. Give us the name of your riad and we tell you where to meet.

It is a small town that suits a night or two.

Chefchaouen to Tangier

The drive back costs the same and takes the same time. Choose "Chefchaouen → Tangier" at the top of the form, and give the address, port or airport you are going to.

By coach, CTM left Chefchaouen at 12:20, 15:30, 17:45, 18:45 and 21:15 on the dates we checked, in 2 h 15 to 3 h 10, for 85 MAD. Supratours left at 06:00 and 16:00, in about 2 h 30, for 60 MAD.
